Inspired by Mike Mottram's and Autumn watches Red deer photos/footage I felt I had to have a look around. Being early November it's a bit past the rutting season so the fights have broken up and the males are dispersing. However I did eventually get lucky and found this small herd in Exmoor Park. Unfortunately other people soon turned up and the Stag lead the herd away...
Despite this it was still fantastic to see the Deer this close. They are truly impressive creatures (our largest native land animal) and set against the bleak backdrop of Exmoor seem almost primeval.
